Finding Your Voice, Chasing the Dream & Staying Yourself

Behind the conversation

The story.
The creative journey.

What does it take to land your dream job—and still sound like yourself once you get there? Carrlyn Bathe joins Howard to talk about the decade between joining the LA Kings’ Ice Crew and stepping onto their television broadcast.

She shares how seeing women working in hockey changed her ambitions, why she kept training without pursuing a four-year degree, and what improv taught her about thinking on her feet. They discuss nerves before going live, taking feedback without losing your personality, and learning the jobs of the people around you so everyone can do better work.

The conversation gets personal as Carrlyn and Howard compare their experiences with ADHD, self-criticism, and the pressure of being constantly reachable. Carrlyn talks about setting boundaries with online comments, interviewing players after a difficult loss, and learning to move forward from mistakes.

Beyond the broadcast, they get into gaming, streaming, editing videos, and launching Royal Tea with a team that helped make it possible. Carrlyn is honest about still figuring out the balance between work, home, and the projects she wants to pursue. There’s also time for hockey stories, the funniest people around the Kings, and the player she’d love to have mic’d up every game.
